Dear Beloved Guys & Gals,
My boyfriend Brett went away for 5 weeks! to Costa Rica & Panama on a SURF TRIP with his brother Shawn. He regaled me with stories of amazing surf and beautiful land. (He wore a hole through his rash guard from laying on his board so much!) It was everything he had hoped for.
The last few days a huge storm blew in from Antarctica~every surfers dream~ a Southern swell. An anomaly of hydrodynamics produced 12~18 foot waves. Both guys swam out together. Brett’s last wave sent him to the bottom of the ocean. Struggling to get to the surface, he pulled on his cord and found only 2 feet left of foam.
He knew that hanging onto the foam was critical for his safety in huge surf. The problem? He had 7’2″ of sharp thin fiberglass still attached to the 2 feet of foam. In a split second he used all of his strength and tore the fiberglass from the foam and threw it as far away from him as possible.
He held onto the foam through a set of crashing waves and tumbled in to shore. His brother came in 30 minutes later~another broken board! After 1 month of surfing, both brothers knew that even though the cost of a surfboard is $500~1200, they were not about to miss one day of dream waves!
Despite cuts and shards of fiberglass in Brett’s forearms, the next day they headed to town to find new boards. They were shocked and thrilled to find BRAND NEW, DESIGNER BOARDS that they could rent, which is highly unusual. Brett grabbed a new board of a different length, width and shape than the ones he had tried before.
He found the board was half the effort to paddle and surf and offered twice the maneuverability. He had twice as much fun! Brett had traveled all over the world with Shawn and his wife (both surfers) and she said that it was the best she had ever seen him surf.
Brett told me later that it can take YEARS to find the right board. The day of disaster for his old board was the day of opportunity for his surfing skills. Brett realized that his outdated equipment had had been holding back his skills!
How many times are we trying to work life with old tools or outdated gear? They seem to work just fine but we never really know what we are capable of until we find THE RIGHT TOOLS. Brett’s esteem as a surfer now is sky high. He has just begun to tap into his potential with the right gear.
Where is your potential stuck?
Are you afraid of being seen by the world? What if you were too gifted, too amazing, too strong, too pretty, too successful?? Who would be hurt? Your family? Would you UPSTAGE anyone?? Seriously, think about it!
What would happen if you actually achieved your greatness?
This is the most common problem known to mankind. Gay Hendricks asks,
“How GOOD can you STAND IT???”

There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
